5 Types of Cancer That Have Been Linked to Talking on Your Cell Phone All the Time

Technology has an octopus-like grip over modern-day society and our lives, sitting at the heart of this beast are cell phones. From being briefcase-sized, ultra-expensive devices, they’ve innovated to become both portable and affordable to everyone.

Not surprisingly the number of cell phone users has exploded over the last 20 years. In the United States in 1985, the number of cell phone users were recorded at 340,213. By 1995 it had reached 33,758,661 and in 2010, we were looking at 300,520,098 users! On a worldwide scale, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported 6.9 billion mobile subscriptions as of 2014. Amazing, isn’t it. But what about the dangers?

Cell Phone Radiation Exposures Linked To Cancer

Cell phones have now evolved into all singing and dancing smart phones. These additional functions, or apps, make it a lot harder for us to put our phone down. There’s always something to do, whether it’s a game to play or Facebook that needs some checking, monitoring the stock market or referring to our planner. This means we’re more in contact with our cell phones than we’ve ever been and also more exposed to their dangers.

What few people realize is that cell phones emit a form of man-made electromagnetic field (EMF) called radio-frequency radiation (RF radiation), also known as microwaves. Yes, microwaves just like your microwave oven except these microwaves are used to network telecommunications. Nevertheless when we use our smart phone our bodies are bombarded with these man-made frequencies. These man-made frequencies penetrate our bodies and studies link these exposures to a long list of serious diseases, including cancer.

40% Increase In Brain Tumors With Just 30 Minutes A Day On Your Cell Phone

In 2011, WHO’s International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) officially classified cell phone radiation as possibly carcinogenic to humans. Already the IARC has reported a 40% increased chance of gliomas – specific types of brain tumors – in users who spend an average of 30 minutes per day on phone calls in the course of 10 years.

Heavy users have also been found to be particularly susceptible to various other types of cancers such as testicular cancer, salivary gland tumors, cancer related to the nervous system and also leukemia as stated in this Danish study.

Long Term Effects Of Cell Phone Radiation Not Known

What’s more, an Austrian study conducted by the Medical University of Vienna determined the potential genotoxicity of being exposed to RF-EMFs. The study stated that, “Cells are unusually sensitive to electromagnetic fields.” The study also observed genotoxic effects -single and double-strand breaks in DNA which suggests potential changes in our genes. The side-effects of RF-EMF cell phone radiation type exposures include a change in function the of neurotransmitters, metabolic changes in the body, reduced memory and attention span, changes in sleeping patterns and also headaches.

Cell phones have been in use for a relatively short period of time. The fear is that because of the ‘latency period’ between these radiation exposures and observable effects on our health, as the Nuclear incidents of the last century showed us, that the long-term effects of cell phone usage are even worse than what is currently thought to be the case.

9 Quick and Easy Steps For Cell Phone Protection

The logical way to deal with a problem is not to mull over it but implement solutions! While completely abandoning cell phones is quite hard (if not impossible) for many to do, you can apply these protective methods:

  • Avoid talking on the phone whenever possible and if you have to, keep the call short. The best options are to use a landline or send an SMS.
  • Don’t store your phone in direct contact with your body. Instead of putting it in your pocket, keep your cell phone in a backpack, handbag or other bag.
  • When speaking on the phone, use a headset or if you’re in the right environment, just go on loudspeaker! Avoid using Bluetooth headsets as they also work wirelessly and increase your exposure to RF-EMF.
  • The more apps you have on your cell phone, the more radiation it produces as they run in the background. Remove what you don’t need and when you’re not using the Internet, turn off your data network or your wireless.
  • Don’t talk on the phone in areas with poor coverage because this forces your phone to use more power so it can receive and transmit.
  • When you’re home, don’t use the Internet on your smart phone. Instead, use your laptop/desktop with a hardwired Ethernet connection to avoid wireless radiation.
  • Turn off your cell phone at night or put it on flight mode. Resist the temptation to sleep with your phone in your bedroom. Way safer is to use a little battery alarm clock!
  • Avoid using your cell phone when it is charging. This is when the battery is refueling and power is surging through your phone. Being in direct contact means more exposure to magnetic fields.
  • Don’t use your cell phones when you’re in a car or using public transportation. The vehicle can act as a “faraday cage” causing the radiation to bounce around and be absorbed by your body at a higher level than would otherwise be the case.

Considering how most of us spend more time with our cell phone than we do with the love of our lives, it’s important to be aware of the dangers! As for now, take these personal measures to protect yourself, your loved ones and your future generation.
