What's Oil Got to Do With It

by Lee Siu Hin

April 23, 2002

"It is clear that one of the reasons the US maintains the Iraqi sanctions is to allow the major oil companies to reap huge profits. Yet the overriding motivation behind US policies is to retain hegemony over the oil-rich Persian Gulf which provides about a quarter of the world's oil. Above all, the goal is to send an unmistakable message: that any country bold enough to stand up to the US will reap the same unprecedented and brutal consequences inflicted upon Iraq."

Why Politics Divides People

by Gary Galles

May 1, 2002

We are in the post-primary lull, before the campaign mud-slinging starts in earnest (California's governor's race being an exception, with Governor Gray Davis spending millions to defeat Richard Riordan in the Republican primary). But as November draws nearer, we will enter a storm of negative attack advertising, by politicians who all claim to detest it.

Last November, at a conference of the Federalist Society at Washington's Mayflower Hotel, attorney Theodore Olson welcomed his audience to "the vast right-wing conspiracy. In fact, you're at the heart of it."

Financial Scams and the Bush Family

by Michel Chossudovsky

March 6, 2002

The Enron scandal is but the tip of the iceberg. Fully documented by the U.S. and British media, the Bush family has been implicated in a string of financial scams since the 1980s.

The personal links between the Bush and Salinas de Gortiari families are also documented. The Salinas family was closely tied to the Mexican drug cartel.

Citizens have been right all along!

by Tina staik

Our common sense and good judgment have not deceived us, even though, for some time now, because our gut feelings have told us one thing, and corporate media another, we have grappled to get to the truth. We have known all along, however, that something was wrong. For decades, it turns out, a LOT of money went into manipulating our God-given human intelligence to create a topsy-turvy world in which we, full fledged American citizens, were trained to blindly and appreciatively follow the tune of corporate pied pipers.

How the World Would Work Without Government?

by Doug Casey

April 24, 2002

Many people who are sympathetic to the notion of minimizing institutionalized coercion are still skeptical about how, or even if, the world would work without government. Who, they ask, would build the roads and run the schools? Who would keep order in society and protect it from predators?

How can Democracy be bad for you?

An explanation

The term "Democracy" is often used as an ideal which promises to bring peace, prosperity and happiness to all. Observe the way Clinton and Blair repeat the word as if it's a magical phrase which dispels critics and rallies support. I defined democracy and here I shall discuss some issues that surround it.

Liberty Is More Important than Democracy

by Richard M. Ebeling

[Posted April 30, 2002]

The 20th century was most certainly the most inhuman and brutal one hundred years in modern history. Two World Wars as well as the Nazi and Communist forms of totalitarianism have been estimated to have caused the death of at least 250 million people. This would be equivalent to the mass murder of the entire populations of Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Peru, and Paraguay.
