I had a great caller on my Natural Solutions Radio show with a question on thyroid. It was so good that I had it transcribed and am posting here for all. Please share as much as possible.
Iodine is a controversial topic with regard to thyroid health, and while I discussed the dangers of high doses of iodine for Hashimoto’s in my book, Hashimoto’s the Root Cause, I have not yet written a post about iodine publicly, as I wanted to make sure that the conversation didn’t turn into a debate about a single nutrient when Hashimoto’s is a multi-factor and full body condition.
However, this question keeps coming up, and I have seen iodine harm people with Hashimoto’s, so I feel the need to make this cautionary post about using iodine with Hashimoto’s.
The occurrence of iodine deficiency in cardiovascular disease is frequent. The thyroid hormone deficiency on cardiovascular function can be characterized with decreased myocardial contractility and increased peripheral vascular resistance as well as with the changes in lipid metabolism. A study done with 42 patients with cardiovascular disease were divided into 5 subgroups on the ground of the presence of hypertension, congestive heart failure, cardiomyopathy, coronary dysfunction and arrhythmia.
In the 1990s, many studies reported an increase in thyroid cancer in children due to the release of Iodine-131 during the Chernobyl accident in 1986 (Prisyazhniuk et al., 1991; Kazakov et al., 1992). While a vast array of radioactive isotopes were released into the environment during the Fukushima meltdown, Iodine-129 is a particularly concerning material, due to its incredibly long half-life.

We knew a hundred years ago that we needed more iodine and governments started putting a tiny bit in table salt. It was not enough and after the nuclear accident at Fukushima, we need more because of the radioactive iodine released into the environment.
Humans in the 21st Century have an absolute need for iodine supplementation. Iodine is the only medicinal that stands between antibiotic resistant hell and us.
This is going to be the final chapter in the second edition of my iodine book. After reading everything about iodine, we need to take a final leap to understand how important iodine is and how much pain and suffering has occurred when modern medicine substituted vaccines and antibiotics for iodine. Today the need for something safer, more effective and life serving than vaccines and antibiotics has become imperative.
Dr. Sherrill Sellman’s book, “What Women Must Know To Protect Their Daughters From Breast Cancer, says, “Breast cancer will always be a tragedy that befalls a woman. It tears at the very fabric of a woman’s life rippling out to touch all those in her word. The fears, uncertainties, and pain are deeply and profoundly shared by family, friends and co-workers. It is even a greater tragedy when young women are faced with this crisis because the tumors tend to be more aggressive.
What is iodine?

I am still blown away with one simple thing. Out of the myriads of problems I used to have that are now gone: allergies, weak nails, sinusitis, headaches, I am blown away by the lack of the return of my heart palpitations and arrythmia.
