Updates on the current Flu situation

High-dose zinc supplements found to speed recovery from colds and flu by 300%

A new study conducted at the University of Helsinki and published in Open Forum Infectious Diseases found that simple, low-cost zinc supplementation greatly speeds recovery from colds and influenza infections.

The study, authored by Harri Hemilä, James T. Fitzgerald, Edward J. Petrus and Ananda Prasad, pursued a meta-analysis tracking of the recovery progress in human patients given either zinc acetate lozenges or placebo. They found a 300% faster recovery time among those who took zinc lozenges containing 80 – 92 mg/day.

Never get the flu shot! Use these safer and more effective alternatives instead

Every year around fall, an army of pharmacists and physicians, backed-up by the government and media, goes on a mission to inoculate as many people as possible with the seasonal flu or influenza shot. While they claim that those who refuse the flu shot are putting their own health and that of others at risk, the flu shot isn't as innocent and lifesaving as we have been led to believe.

Ask the Expert: Omega-3 Fatty Acid

Omega-3 fatty acids (also known as n-3 fatty acids) are polyunsaturated fatty acids that are essential nutrients for health. We need omega-3 fatty acids for numerous normal body functions, such as controlling blood clotting and building cell membranes in the brain, and since our bodies cannot make omega-3 fats, we must get them through food. Omega-3 fatty acids are also associated with many health benefits, including protection against heart disease and possibly stroke. New studies are identifying potential benefits for a wide range of conditions including cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and other autoimmune diseases such as lupus and rheumatoid arthritis.

Annual Flu Deaths the Big Lie

Every year, just prior to the impending "flu season," the CDC and their acquiescent media pawns terrorize the American public with false claims regarding annual flu deaths. The CDC boldly asserts that 36,000 people die every year from the flu. Such scare tactics are calculated to increase flu vaccine sales. However, according to the CDC's own official records documented in National Vital Statistics Reports, only a few hundred people die from influenza (flu) on an average year. And many of these deaths occur in people with preexisting conditions, weakened immune systems, and the elderly. For example, in 2002, 753 people died from the flu. The year before, in 2001, just 257 people died from the flu. (Fifty-nine percent of these deaths occurred in people 75 years or older; 75 percent occurred in people 55 years or older.) To put these numbers in perspective, 3,454 Americans died from malnutrition in 2001 -- 13 times greater than the number of flu deaths! That same year, there were 4,269 deaths attributed to asthma, a condition some studies have linked to vaccines.

Flu “Epidemic”: The Numbers Just Don’t Add Up

One prominent media outlet says, “Influenza has reached epidemic proportions in the United States, with 7.3 percent of deaths last week caused by pneumonia and the flu,” according to the CDC. Another’s report, released the same day, says that “despite all those news reports about overcrowded emergency rooms, it’s too soon to say whether it will be worse than normal” and quoted the CDC as saying that the number of states reporting “high” levels of flu activity has actually dropped from 29 to 24. A third wonders why fewer than 65% of Americans got a flu shot this year, while a fourth notes that the flu vaccine is only about 62% effective, meaning that over a third of the people who do get flu shots still get the flu.
