Study: High Fat Ketogenic Diet Enhances Gut Microbiota in Healing Epilepsy

A high fat ketogenic diet will stop epileptic seizures in some cases where pharmaceutical drugs do not work.

Health Impact News has reported on many of the disease reversing results of the ketogenic (high fat-moderate protein-low carb) diet.

Now, a new study is looking at the positive effects of gut bacteria among those following a ketogenic diet for epilepsy.

Epilepsy cured when parents stop all meds and use high fat diet only

Watch this video to find out how one family found a cure for the epilepsy that plagued their child by stopping medications and following the high-fat ketogenic diet. The diet together with the medications did not work – it only worked when they stopped the medications. Their original doctor had told them that their child “would be mentally challenged the rest of his life” and that he would have to take “strong medicines.” No mention or speculation is made as to why this child suddenly started developing seizures at the age of 2 (could a vaccine negative reaction have been responsible?)

Indiana CPS Drops Case Against Family Giving Daughter Hemp Oil for Epilepsy

Last month (September 2017) we published the story about Jaelah Sue from Indiana, and the struggle her parents were having with CPS and Riley Children’s Hospital in Indianapolis over her medical care.

Jaelah Sue was diagnosed with epilepsy at Riley Children’s Hospital, and her parents had great success in allegedly reducing her seizures from 50+ a day to 2-4 a day using CBD Oil (also known as “Charlotte’s Web Hemp Oil”).

CBD Oil is made from hemp (not marijuana), which is not psycho-active (produces a “high”) and is legal in all 50 states.

Record Number of Americans Have Epilepsy

More Americans than ever are living with epilepsy, federal health officials reported Thursday.

According to the new report, 1.2 percent of the population -- about 3 million adults and 470,000 children -- were being treated for epilepsy or had experienced recent seizures in 2015, the researchers from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said.

Seizure Worsening May Not Be Due to Epilepsy Drugs

Fri Jul 12, 2002

NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - Although some people with epilepsy may see an aggravation in their seizures after starting a new medication, the blame should not necessarily go to the drug, according to one researcher.

His review of past study data found that while patients started on a new medication sometimes showed an increase in partial seizures, it happened just as often among study participants given an inactive placebo.

Treatable Form of Epilepsy Often Not Diagnosed

BERLIN (Reuters Health) - A recently discovered form of epilepsy can be successfully treated with a special high-fat diet, but many adults with the condition are not being properly diagnosed, researchers said on Monday.

GLUT 1 deficiency syndrome epilepsy, only recognized in 1999, occurs when sugars cannot reach the brain from the blood, which starves brain cells.
