WTO Rules Against U.S. On Tax Law

Months after it had been presumed dead, an international trade case brought by the European Union against U.S. tax law again reared its head yesterday, as the E.U. won a new decision by a World Trade Organization panel and threatened to reimpose sanctions on U.S. goods.

How does it grab you that the borders between the US, Canada, and Mexico are being ERASED, and none of us have ever had ANY say in the matter? NAFTA (renamed to) CAFTA

Negotiated by the governments of the United States, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and El Salvador, the Central American Free Trade Agreement (CAFTA) would impose the failed policies of the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) throughout Central America and the Caribbean. The agreement would undermine workers' rights, drive countless family farmers off the land and ultimately lay the groundwork for the expansion of NAFTA throughout the hemisphere.

Supplement directive is valid, surprise court decision

The European food supplements directive is valid, decided a European court ruling today, ending months of uncertainty for much of the region’s supplements industry, and disappointing those behind a major effort to overturn the law, reports Dominique Patton.

The decision this morning came as a surprise after the advocate general on the case indicated in April that the directive should be considered invalid as it flouted principles of community law.

Vitamin market future in dispute

The future of Britain's thriving market in vitamins and other food supplements was in hot dispute after European judges approved tough new laws that health food campaigners wanted scrapped.

Large sections of the British health food industry insist hundreds of established food supplements in thousands of products will now be swept from the shelves by the EU rules which come into force in August.

A controversial new EU regulation that has threatened to outlaw thousands of mineral supplements and bankrupt health food stores across Britain was upheld this morning.

The European Court of Justice approved the Food Supplements Directive even though the court's own Advocate-General advised that the Directive was invalid under EU law.
