Chanca piedra is a small annual herb indigenous to the Amazon rainforest and other tropical areas throughout the world. The Spanish name of the plant, chanca piedra, means stone breaker or shatter stone. It is so named for its effective use for centuries by Amazonian indigenous peoples in eliminating gallstones and kidney stones. Recently, the plant has been receiving attention for its anti-hepatitis B activity.
