Antioxidants, Minerals and Cancer

An interest in oxygen therapies is usually an indication of an interest in a wholistic approach to health. Based on intercourse with those who are interested in oxygen therapies, it seems that if you were not previously interested in natural whole health, oxygen's air of magic will nudge you in that direction.

I ponder things like how health is affected by your thoughts, your partner(s) and where your food is grown. So this month I would like to relate oxygen to other aspects of over-all health.

are of great concern to many of us. Colloidal minerals are the thing these days. Prior to their popularity, chelated minerals were "it". The difference between minerals in one form or another has much to do with absorption or availability. The same mineral, in either a colloidal or chelated state, is available to your body more readily than that same mineral in a metallic form. In sales pitches for colloidal mineral supplements, the difference has been compared to trying to get iron from chewing a rusty nail.

Whether in your own body or in your vegetable garden, what good are minerals if they just sit there? What does this have to do with oxygen? What if oxygen carries minerals to cells? What if the O bus is the major means of transportation around and amongst the cells of your living body?

Two recent conversations introduced me to some interesting ideas on this topic. The first was with Phil Thomas, well-known to those interested in certain aspects of the Edgar Cayce readings. (See the January 1997 O Zone for more information on some of the items mentioned in this installment, as well as how to find the material in the Cayce readings.)

Phil's research and accomplishments to date involve the Cayce wet cell and radio-active appliances, violet ray lamps, charged iodine (Atomidine) and animated ash. Of all the people who have investigated and reported or acted on the Cayce readings, Phil stands out for one important reason--he researches the readings thoroughly then sets out to follow their instructions meticulously.

What's Animated Ash?

From "Ashes; Two Ashes", by Phil Thomas...

...the carbon and animated ashes, best known for their position in the work as blood and lymph oxygenators, and the Cayce cure for cancer... Mr. Cayce... suggests at one point when referring to carbon ash that this "will prove to be the boon to humanity"...

The fundamental precept here appeared to be the realignment of the D.N.A. structure itself to enhance cellular capability to recognize and carry oxygen.

It was apparent from the onset that animated ash was the form to begin with, as carbon ash had never been fully developed even during Cayce's time. Electrified, carbonized bamboo...

Sampling a quarter grain of animated ash was relatively subtle. However, the lightheadedness which Cayce had mentioned occurred in both of us, so we were encouraged to continue moving forward...

In the hundred or so readings where Cayce recommended animated ash for cancer, about half the time he suggests utilizing the violet ray in conjunction with it, and in the other half he brings a mercury quartz ultra violet lamp into play... Apparently the hand held violet ray was suggested for a superficial nerve-blood reaction, whereas the ultra violet lamp would trigger a deeper response...

From Cayce reading #130-1, given in 1930 for a 40 year-old-woman with a series of complications resulting from a rabid cat bite four years earlier...

Well were there taken, at least once each week, an eighth grain of medicated ash to produce oxygen, as it is carried in the system. When this is taken, over the sacral and lower limbs apply the ultraviolet ray. Apply same to the sacral region and the back portion of limbs, so that along the nerve impulses to the limbs the whole of the ray is carried. Let this be at least thirty-eight inches from the body in the beginning, and not given over two and one-half minutes in the beginning, see?

These instructions are typical of the ash/ozone combo in Cayce readings. Each reading was for a specific person and should not be taken as medical advice or general instructions. Some readings were given as "general instructions" for preparation or application of herbs, devices and/or formulas. These readings are clearly identified as such in the Cayce reading archives.

My respect for Phil is born of his strict adherence to the readings themselves. What I present here serves only to introduce the relationship between the mineral (the ash) and the oxygen (ozone).

There are several types of each of the 2 ultraviolet lamps. There were variations in the readings of the methods of applying the rays from the lamps, the amount and frequency of the ash to ingest and other conditions to respect during the treatments.

Those are only a few of the reasons why I stress the importance of thoroughly researching the original readings.

A Conversation With George Freibott

Minerals were not on my mind when I phoned George Freibott. I was more interested in trying to understand the free radical vs. oxygenation issue.

To summarize a two-and-a-half hour conversation with one of oxytherapy's living legends would be difficult. In the process of refining the information, it occurred to me that I should really just blurt it out the way I perceive it and let the debaters continue without me. It'll give them something to do. On the topic of minerals, George quoted someone named Crile and spoke of the bipolar theory of electrical processes. Or in simpler terms, that oxygen, of all the elements, is the most highly reactive/compatible with all other elements, including fluorine. He called oxygen electro-negative.

Although George did not elaborate on the significance of oxygen's reaction with fluorine, I am speculating that sufficient oxygenation might assist in the removal/neutralization of fluorine. Fluorine is one of those atoms that is not inclined towards socializing (combining with other elements).

When a cell is full of oxygen, it seeks out minerals, attracting them to the cell -- the oxygen's receptive, reactive, radical nature grabs the minerals and delivers them to the cell.

How's this for a fresh idea? The oxygen radical is required to break down harmful radicals. Every substance in the body is either oxidized or reduced via elimination or absorption. Oxygen is used in all of these processes.

To elaborate on that, without oxygen nothing would be assimilated or eliminated. Oxygen is the key to motility in your body. Everything moves around by hitching a ride on oxygen's back!

Repeatedly, Edgar Cayce's readings stressed the importance of proper assimilation and proper elimination. Get the good stuff to where it needs to go and get the other stuff out. Listening to George describe oxygen's role in these processes rings a bell for me that sheds light on the mechanics of it all. It shouts to me, "This makes so much sense that all we need to do now is wait a few decades for the researchers to catch up.".

Channels of elimination include the respiratory system. What do you exhale? Carbon dioxide. That's carbon and oxygen. What is the carrier for wastes disposed of in urine? Water -- water that contains the stuff that's on its way out. What is water made of? Oxygen and hydrogen. Everything leaves your body on the oxygen train. Skin and its respiration are critical eliminatory functions as well. I can only speculate as to how well your skin would look, feel and function without proper oxygenation, but I imagine that it's an ugly situation and an ugly sight!

George Freibott's take on antioxidants is extremely interesting. He is skeptical of results and conclusions based on free radical tests and experiments done in laboratory settings rather than in living systems. I have to agree with his statement that many of these results are tainted by the use of dyes and laboratory conditions, divorced from the reality of the living organism.

Here's one of his examples of possibly faulty conclusions...

Application of an antioxidant (say, for example, a vitamin E oil) to skin exposed to sunlight causes measurable amounts of oxygen at the site of application. In much the same way as ozone is measured to determine the presence of air pollution, ozone is not the pollutant any more than oxygen is the bad guy in the antioxidant scenario.

George's take on this is that what we call antioxidants are actually oxygen managers, oxygen regulators or oxygen transporters. This corresponds to my take on oxygen's role in our bodies. Besides the fact that singlet oxygen (O as opposed to O2) is not the only free radical that gets itself involved with antioxidants (free radical scavengers, as they are also called), it seems to me that oxygen itself is one of the most potent and important free radical managers/scavengers there is!

All you have to do is sit down and think about oxygen's involvement in every major bodily function to realize that the idea of oxygen radicals being harmful can only be part of a yet unfinished notion. Whatever the effect of loose singlet oxygen, I refuse to believe that it is cause to fear a sensible oxygen or ozone protocol.

I say this in response to a very common reaction when I have spoken about oxygen therapies. It's a knee-jerk reaction and it usually goes something like this...

"What about oxygen free radicals? I thought antioxidants had to remove oxygen radicals? Why would I want to put more oxygen into my body?"

This reaction is based on the 11:00 news exposure to what we take to be fact. It does not stand up to scrutiny or intelligent query. It also speaks volumes about much of what we take for granted in our acquired body of knowledge or collective consciousness.

When you start questioning certain notions, you find that many of them don't hold water (that's hydrogen in combination with oxygen).
