Reduce Your Diabetes Risk

More than 5,000 Americans a day are diagnosed with type 2 diabetes, and almost 26 million people in the U.S. have the disease. But researchers at Harvard have discovered that a common food may reduce your diabetes risk by about 24 percent even if you don’t make any other lifestyle changes.

The food that fights diabetes is the walnut.

When researchers analyzed the health and diet of about 138,000 women taking part in the Nurses Health Study, they found that over 10 years, those who ate walnuts were at a significantly lower risk of diabetes.

The walnut eaters in the study also ate more fish than other women, exercised more frequently and had a lower average weight.
